Scurry County Commissioner's Court Meeting
The court discussed the potential use of the old DMS building as a local respite and crisis care facility, operated in collaboration with West Texas Centers. Key points included the current lack of local mental health respite options, which often forces law enforcement to transport individuals to distant counties for care, and the potential for this facility to serve as a diversionary option to help keep individuals with mental health needs out of the jail system. The court reviewed the nature of West Texas Centers as a governmental entity, the prospective operational model including staffing, meal services, and the need for future grant funding and potential facility modifications.
